Mother of Kartli

Mother of Kartli

The Mother of Kartli is a 20-meter aluminum statue in monumental style, overlooking the city from the Sololaki Ridge.

The statue depicts a woman in traditional Georgian attire. In her left hand, she holds a bowl of wine – a symbol of Georgian hospitality; in her right hand, she holds a sword, symbolizing the readiness of the Georgian people to stand firmly against enemies. This dual image demonstrates the essence of the Georgian national character – kindness and warmth toward guests, but determination to fight to the end against those who threaten their homeland.

At the base of the statue opens a panoramic view of the whole city of Tbilisi and its surroundings. It stands near Narikala Fortress, overlooking the Old Town, the Botanical Garden, and the capital as a whole. The monument can be reached either on foot or by the cable car that starts from Rike Park and connects to Narikala.
