Kutaisi
Imereti - a region in western Georgia, located in the heart of Colchis, rich in caves, canyons and lush nature. Its main city is Kutaisi - the second largest city in the country and one of the oldest centers of culture.
Kutaisi and its surrounding areas are distinguished by their abundance of cultural monuments and beautiful nature. Here you will find a garden - a boulevard, which is more than a century and a half old, which connects to the central square of the city. The great Georgian poet Akaki Tsereteli called the boulevard the "Kutaisi Parliament", because the intelligentsia gathered here to discuss important issues. The tradition continues today. Here, in the square, you will find the Colchis Fountain, decorated with 30 gilded figures corresponding to artifacts discovered during the excavations of Vani in Georgia.
At the end of the boulevard stands the Kutaisi Opera and Ballet Theater, on the roof of which you can see 13 Roman figures made by a Kutaisi sculptor. Slightly lower down, on the banks of the Rioni River, is the residence of the Imereti kings, the “Golden Awning”; higher up, on the hill, is the Bagrati Cathedral, built in 1003 as a symbol of a united Georgia.
